The slug slingers

My daughter, Amber, and my boyfriend's son, Sebastian, have decided they need to build a club house on the side of the house. Sunday they began excavation of the building site, which included tearing out some blackberries and grass.

Now, you have to understand, Sebastian isn't a huge earthworm fan, and while pulling out grass, to get to the blackberries, the kids found a big, fat worm. Eeek!! Over the fence it went! Right into the neighbor's yard. Next they uncovered a slug, which quickly became airborne, you guessed it - over the fence. Sebastian, who is 10, thought this was rather amusing, so when Amber found another slug he encouraged her to send it to join the other 2 ejected invertebrates. Fling! After tossing the offending slime factory Amber realized the neighbor was casually leaning on the fence, watching the entire sling-a-thon. They made eye contact and he said, in his somewhat broken English, "Why do you do this? I do not throw garbage in your yard. Why do you throw garbage in my yard? Who taught you this?"

Amber was horrified. Caught in the act, can't deny it. BUSTED! The neighbor then made both kids come over to his yard and collect their cast-off creepy crawlers.

I wasn't home to enjoy any of this. But when Amber told me the story I laughed and laughed. Serves 'em right. Who throws slugs? That's just gross.
