April 27, 2008 Pink elephant treasure!
My aunt tells the best stories. She's 86 yrs old and has lived a very full life, which she continues to live today.
Yesterday I got to meet one of her friends from her childhood. This woman is a year or two younger and just as energetic as my aunt. Her friend and my aunt have the same first name, Marge. So I'll refer to my aunt as my aunt, and Marge as Marge. Simple enough.
Marge told us a story of how my aunt was always coming up with great games for the two of them to play. One day my aunt decided they should play "treasure hunt", and since my aunt was so very poor they had to use Marge's jewelery for the treasure. Marge had only one piece of jewelery, a pink elephant bracelet. My aunt talked Marge into letting her bury the bracelet and then my aunt drew a treasure map to find it with. The map was certainly not up to pirate standards and the two of them dug up just about the whole back yard trying to find the treasure. That was 76 or so years ago, and Marge still brings it up every time they see each other.
My aunt has been looking for a piece of jewelry with a pink elephant on it for YEARS. Brianna and I went to the Boise Mall yesterday, because we were losing our minds. We popped into Claire's to see if we could find something with a pink elephant. And we did! We found a set of two necklaces, each with a pink elephant charm. One had the word "Best", and the other said "Friend". We, of course, had to buy the set. Brianna gave the two necklaces to my aunt and she was so completely delighted. She can hardly wait to see Marge so she can give her one of the necklaces.
My aunt said she's saving the "Best" one for herself. She always makes me laugh!
